Go to your nearest thrift store and look for overalls, hopefully you will be as lucky as I am here in San Francisco, at Mission Thrift and Clothes contact on Valencia. They have lots of well worn overalls, although most I saw yesterday were in pretty big size, around 40-34, but I also found a “new” Round house pair ! wonderful and overalls folks out there, please tell me and other overalls fans how your experience is preparing for having a good life every day and for the big overalls day !

well, now overalls are really on their way into the fashion world, and as you can read in New York Times some like it and some does not like it ! but now it should also be for men ! that would be fantastic ! and now I am really looking forward to go to San Francisco and take a look in the thrift stores for very fashionable overalls for a nice price !! and then to New York and show them ! great inspiration for the coming overalls day on November 20th

Revisiting Nancy in overalls – once discovered the comfort of overalls, hard to change that !

Do you remember my post back in 2007 about the overalls fan from New York, Nancy,in a fashion show, where the Cojo fashion guy tried to persuade Nancy to give up her beloved overalls, well, I felt sad for her ! and now, yesterday, there was a follow up to see how well Cojo was doing his overhaul with Nancy, and I am so happy to see Nancy back in her overalls ! and she says that she went back to her overalls almost immediately after the show in 2006 ! and if you see in the comments, peoples agree and even Cojo admits that you should wear what you want to wear ! so hurrae for that ! it could be fun to have Nancy joining us on overalls day !

Gardening thoughts about motto: Overalls for all ages ?

While I was gardening and trying to work on our arctic mountain garden, very green but also very steep since we live on the mountain (named: The mountain of the devil !) and I was as usual when gardening thinking a lot and today I was thinking of the story about Mayas mother in law at 89 having birthday on the International overalls day ! and going to get her very first overalls ! and then today I was reading a post in another overalls blog or discussion list, with a lot of young overalls fans, talking about how scary it may often be for young overalls fans to show that they like overalls risking a lot of mobbing etc. etc. in contrast to what we were used to who grew up in the 60′ties or 70ties (or ??), then I think what about making it into a motto for our first international overalls day: overalls for all ages ! that must be something all can agree upon ! have a nice weekend!

Being elegant in overalls ?

Well, it might surprise you, but I must admit that I’m a bit ambivalent on this being elegant as well as loving really worn out, patched and almost dissolved overalls and t-shirts ! and that has somehow followed from my childhood, where I loved fine clothes and at the same time was dreaming of getting in old worn out clothes, in other words, one thing is sure: neutral conventional clothing have never been my style ! and that brings me back to an earlier story from http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html, July 5th with an elegant woman in Paris, on the steps, might be Pantheon or College de France, in overalls and jacket and just looks fantastic ! and on July 9th. there is a story about an elegant Japanese man in overalls ! and that leads to a post last month another elegant woman in overalls http://etiquettewithmissjanice.blogspot.com/2009/06/shopping-lunch-and-moviein-palm-beach.html and she has also a new post yesterday on hand-painted overalls !http://etiquettewithmissjanice.blogspot.com/2009/07/road-trip-yall.html
and then my self from a cocktail party at Semaine du Document Numerique at La Rochelle in June 2004, together with my professor colleagues, Bjørn Sørensen from Norway, Michael Buckland from Berkeley and Maribeth Back from Palo Alto, so it is possible to stick to your overalls when you have to be elegant ! have a nice weekend !

in my first jeans jacket from ‘63 (2nd hand!) and overalls

yes, here I am in my very first jeans jacket, which I borrowed from my big brother back in 63, when he had had it for 2 years, so it is almost 50 years now, at least 48 years old ! and I can still wear it, thanks to patches done both myself and my very creative wife, who always have been willing to do all kinds of patches on the jacket and my jeans before I discovered overalls ! more photos of my denim art, if I may be allowed to call it !:), on my flickr album

genetic reason for simple clothes design ?

Well, I love overalls and I have decided not to leave them behind in order to obtain some power or money for my other professional projects ! just like the brother to my 4th great-grand father, Jens Harpoth, a merchant, who lived in a small Danish town around 1800, had his very own frugal style even if he was very wealthy !, and one story about him goes like this: one day he went out to a country inn; wearing his old well worn clothes since he thought clothes should be worn to its limits and patches were not a bad thing! but anyway, the inn keeper was another kind of man and he thought that his new guest without looking close, didn’t look “properly” so he throw him out of the door. Then some of the other guests shouted: you just kicked out one of the richest men around here ! and then the inn keeper tried to get Jens back, but that was too late ! in other words, simple living has a long history ! lets celebrate it every day, and especially on November 20 of course !
