Motto for International Overalls Day Nov 20: Make overalls the default dress code !

Now there is only 13 days left before 1st international overalls Day and one thing is clear, the primary reason why people are choosing overalls as their favorite clothing is comfort and thus the possibility of relaxing and breathing all the way down from your head to your feet, so as mentioned yesterday, why not making overalls to the default dress code, couldn’t be fun to see signs: only overalls are allowed !:), well, I really don’t want to press people something they don’t like, but then one could make a recommendation ! then it is still up to people to decide ! So let us show the people why it is so wonderful to wear overalls on ordinary days as well as to parties, like myself in the kitchen today and to a New Year party a few years ago after a glass or two of wine !:) So be ready for November 20 !!

Happy Halloween from bibprofessor – and thoughts about overalls vs business suit !

Happy Halloween from up here in dark North, and I have already given the first sweets to kids on our street coming in their costumes ! no matter that it is big commercial event ! it is in any case nice to have this event bringing some festivities to the neighborhood on an ordinary Saturday ! but I am also longing to San Francisco with all kinds of pumpkin lanterns and going to the opera this evening, where most of the audience is just as much in fantastic costumes as the actors on stage ! but now I am here in the North and that’s fine, especially when I can listen to Mission Bohemeia cd bought at my favorite cafe La Boheme so I admit, I am longing after my second home, San Francisco, where I 8 years ago discovered the qualities of overalls ! and then to this question about overalls and why all this talk about overalls ! Well, overalls are no guarantee for being liberal or hippie, in fact very conservative farmers wear overalls all the time ! but overalls give everybody wearing them an opportunity to breathe all the way down without restricting belts etc. so no matter if you are right or left or in the middle, you can stand more sturdy in overalls than something dividing you on the middle and much better insist on being yourself independent of your point of view ! and I know some would be worried and unsure to wear overalls when doing business, especially in cities, but see for instance Farmer Jones and I have done it myself when I was to cocktail party in Franceand I am now into opera business, a very stylish world, but for that I have now convinced my wife to knit a very stylish woolen jacket to go along with my black overalls ! so it is possible if you are creative ! and to finish this post I will also refer to my genetic roots ! an old merchant who wore the clothes he liked until they almost fell off him, so when some of my old friends are asking me to change style in order to look like a rich guy or a VIP, Very important person, I am saying no! and the very big quality by insisting on that is that you can survive no matter you are becoming unemployed, need to survive on a minimum etc. be happy in a simple lifestyle no matter how big or small projects you are doing or doing it with kings or people on the street ! so Evelyn give it an extra thought or a try before you buy business suit instead of overalls as mentioned in our dear friend and one of the really overalls guys Laury’s blog today, have a nice weekend and halloween!

once more on roles of gender and the 70′ties and wondering if overalls can make a difference

yesterday one of my overalls friends, Mayaand I began to think of the 70′ties and here I am on the Red Square in January 76 in Moscow with my fur coat made by my mother out of 4 lambs. 7 years before in 69, I was on the first summer camp made by a hippie organization where the principle was completely anarchy ! every one had the right to do what she/he thought was best, well it turned quite traditional out into men sitting with their pipes and women running around making food and taking care of kids and I felt it quite bizarre and not that cozy even if you were supposed to enjoy it ! and when it started to rain, well, it didn’t make it better and Maya, we did not have Hendrix etc. to make it better, so I left the camp quite frustrated on what to do; later in 74, I worked together with feminists, but sometimes in a strange way, since they were very tough in debates and running a hard core theory agenda and then sitting at home in their studio, they were not in a very good shape, in some cases stomach ulcer !, at that time I didn’t understand and neither now ! As I said in my previous post some of the feminists of the 70′ties have now returned to a very traditional position with very traditional division of labor between men and women ! and when you make posts like I did a few days ago about this, I got this comment in Norwegian from one of my students, living in the Norwegian countryside with the heading saying: I have it fixed it:

well, ha, ha, I am of course supposed to laugh and see how funny and crazy men are doing things ! I might severely be lacking sense of humor, but to be honest I don’t think my student got my point around roles of gender ! and this leads to my very big surprise of finding so much positive response and accept from Susan, Maya, Laury, Ms. Moon etc. Until I met you overalls sisters, if I may call you that, my wife and dear life partner since 76 !, has been the only one who really understands me, perhaps since she is also somehow in-between traditional roles and happens to wear 95 % of the time what you could call half-overalls, carpenter-jeans, and before Susan contacted me, I still thought of being more or less alone, but now I know that there are people around the world, funny enough especially in the Southern States, who are living and thinking the same way, so there are still hope and when we have human minded politicians like Obama, yes, there are still hope for making good life, right here, with overalls, a good cup of coffee, have a nice weekend, and again thanks a lot to you overalls sisters for being friends, hope to see you all some time some place ! but blogs are a very good beginning for sure !

thoughts about why I feel happy and sort of found myself !

well, today I really feel so happy, why ? well, I believe I have found my true friends among overalls fans, Laury, Maya, Susan etc. apparently mostly farm girls and artists!, why, perhaps I’m not an ordinary man, but I happens to like down to earth simple life, to garden, make food, cakes etc. and do shopping in thrift stores finding cool and comfortable clothes, read: well worn, yeah, almost worn out clothes, especially overalls! I have not met many men with same interests ? well, perhaps I should not worry about that ! but I also like music and art in general, especially opera and all this have very little to do with science and academia and I am professor in documentation studies and just submitted a scientific article on document theory, how does all this fit together ???, well, if you earn money as professor and have time and possibilities to enjoy thrifting, food, garden, coffee etc. it makes sense, at least for me, so I am so happy to have found myself by getting connected to all the other overalls fans united in making November 20th to an international Overalls day! “national day” for the “overalls nation” ; well, in order to say that not everything is perfect, I am wondering how we honor all the guys who wear overalls every day without thinking of it as something special ! or is that at all a problem?, probably not, it is just me who is rabbling now! so I will stick to the good feelings and enjoy good life as much as possible. yes, here I am in my very first jeans jacket, which I borrowed from my big brother back in 63, when he had had it for 2 years, so it is almost 50 years now, at least 48 years old ! and I can still wear it, thanks to patches done both myself and my very creative wife, who always have been willing to do all kinds of patches on the jacket and my jeans before I discovered overalls ! more photos of my denim art, if I may be allowed to call it !:), on my flickr album
