frugal lifestyle – what about the laptop ?

I am not writing about this for being better than other people but more to follow up on something I just find in other blog discussions, not least among US bloggers, among farm and simple life people about how to live simple for instance drying clothes in open air instead of drying machine etc. so people asks me and my wife, how can you live without a car?, without a dishwasher, a clothes dryingmachine etc. well it goes pretty ok, including to get around in the world. At the same time, I must admit that without a laptop I would have had difficulties to do what I am doing now, for instance get in contact with people all over the world without traveling or before traveling to see them by boat or train or flight (uups-that is not frugal ?).
