Hello from the North to overalls fans overall the globe ready for first overalls day Nov 20!

Hi everybody, during the last day or 2, a lot of bib overalls fans have shown up on facebook thanks to Woodstock Lily and Jodi so a lot of people are preparing celebrations on Friday next week ! that’s just fantastic! I had never dreamed of that when Susan and I got the idea earlier this year and then joined by Laury and Maya so even if I am a rare person here in Norway standing in the auditorium in overalls, I now really feel there is a shared happiness among those who wear overalls because it is comfortable, relaxing and a special joy of following the process of fading and getting almost torn and fringed etc. but then patched in many creative and colorful ways ! like my old jeans jacket from ‘61 and “new” key overalls from 2001 so I am really looking forward to see how the first overalls day is going to be like! and please take a look at notquitejunecleaver tomorrow for recipes for overalls celebration parties next week!

Motto for International Overalls Day Nov 20: Make overalls the default dress code !

Now there is only 13 days left before 1st international overalls Day and one thing is clear, the primary reason why people are choosing overalls as their favorite clothing is comfort and thus the possibility of relaxing and breathing all the way down from your head to your feet, so as mentioned yesterday, why not making overalls to the default dress code, couldn’t be fun to see signs: only overalls are allowed !:), well, I really don’t want to press people something they don’t like, but then one could make a recommendation ! then it is still up to people to decide ! So let us show the people why it is so wonderful to wear overalls on ordinary days as well as to parties, like myself in the kitchen today and to a New Year party a few years ago after a glass or two of wine !:) So be ready for November 20 !!

well, over all you have nature and up here where I live, it is sometimes just so unbelievable beautiful (at least for me and my DW) so sitting in my living room in nice overalls and just watching the change of light and the profile of mountains and cloud formations with a good cup of coffee,thats just good life ! and one simple idea for the overalls day might be to make a kind of web gallery if possible with all the posts on Nov 20 supporting the overalls day ! with photos taken on the day of the growing number of people ready to celebrate the overalls ! have a nice Sunday !

Celebrate overalls day with overalls photos all over the web

getting close to 1st international overalls day, I am posting a photo from my recent visit to San Francisco visiting my dear friend Mary, our landlady, when we lived in SF for a year. Sometimes I may feel crazy doing all this about overalls ! but Mary supports me with full heart ! and I am also so grateful for people like Laury who is posting overalls photos every day now and Farmer Lee who is going to have everybody on his farm to wear overalls on November 20 and make a group photo on the web on November 20, so if a lot of blogging people, who love overalls, are going to put photos on from now on and especially on November 20 and tell why they love overalls ! it could be really fun and please take a look on my own flickr album as well as Laurys album and I also have an idea on making a book and I will come back to that !

be ready to wear your overalls at least on November 20 in addition to all the other days enjoying one of the best, if not the very best clothing item in the world, look relaxed, enjoy life while breathing all the way down your body, enjoy life while you are still able to do it !

International overalls day getting closer – what to do ? any ideas are welcome!

Hi tomorrow there are 2 months before we have the international overalls day and one could have very good reasons for asking what to do on that day ? one could stand out and wave with your overalls or make an exhibition of all of your overalls on a clothes line, playing the song Bury me in my overalls etc. etc. and a follow up could be to make a book about all the fantastic stories around each of you loving overalls having your own special overalls ? and then next year we might have a festival meeting each other in New Orleans, one of the ideas which have turned up, but please feel free to share your ideas here or on our facebook group !

are we all farmgirls ?

well, yesterday I discovered a ministry of overalls ! and as usual I wrote that I and a bunch of farmgirls were working on making an international overalls day ! well, perhaps I would have love to be a farmgirl, well I am a man, working as university professor etc. , but it might not be completely true despite I feel very much comfort in the company of farmgirls and other men and women and all in-between, gay etc. etc. and in fact advocate for a diversity as broad as possible and funny enough many of us loving to live a simple life, enjoy food and gardening, love to wear overalls ! and it is not only elder people like me and others over 50 ! take a look here to read an amazing story about overalls through generations ! a perfect example for an overalls book (hope that we can make that)

once more on roles of gender and the 70′ties and wondering if overalls can make a difference

yesterday one of my overalls friends, Mayaand I began to think of the 70′ties and here I am on the Red Square in January 76 in Moscow with my fur coat made by my mother out of 4 lambs. 7 years before in 69, I was on the first summer camp made by a hippie organization where the principle was completely anarchy ! every one had the right to do what she/he thought was best, well it turned quite traditional out into men sitting with their pipes and women running around making food and taking care of kids and I felt it quite bizarre and not that cozy even if you were supposed to enjoy it ! and when it started to rain, well, it didn’t make it better and Maya, we did not have Hendrix etc. to make it better, so I left the camp quite frustrated on what to do; later in 74, I worked together with feminists, but sometimes in a strange way, since they were very tough in debates and running a hard core theory agenda and then sitting at home in their studio, they were not in a very good shape, in some cases stomach ulcer !, at that time I didn’t understand and neither now ! As I said in my previous post some of the feminists of the 70′ties have now returned to a very traditional position with very traditional division of labor between men and women ! and when you make posts like I did a few days ago about this, I got this comment in Norwegian from one of my students, living in the Norwegian countryside with the heading saying: I have it fixed it:

well, ha, ha, I am of course supposed to laugh and see how funny and crazy men are doing things ! I might severely be lacking sense of humor, but to be honest I don’t think my student got my point around roles of gender ! and this leads to my very big surprise of finding so much positive response and accept from Susan, Maya, Laury, Ms. Moon etc. Until I met you overalls sisters, if I may call you that, my wife and dear life partner since 76 !, has been the only one who really understands me, perhaps since she is also somehow in-between traditional roles and happens to wear 95 % of the time what you could call half-overalls, carpenter-jeans, and before Susan contacted me, I still thought of being more or less alone, but now I know that there are people around the world, funny enough especially in the Southern States, who are living and thinking the same way, so there are still hope and when we have human minded politicians like Obama, yes, there are still hope for making good life, right here, with overalls, a good cup of coffee, have a nice weekend, and again thanks a lot to you overalls sisters for being friends, hope to see you all some time some place ! but blogs are a very good beginning for sure !

Being elegant in overalls ?

Well, it might surprise you, but I must admit that I’m a bit ambivalent on this being elegant as well as loving really worn out, patched and almost dissolved overalls and t-shirts ! and that has somehow followed from my childhood, where I loved fine clothes and at the same time was dreaming of getting in old worn out clothes, in other words, one thing is sure: neutral conventional clothing have never been my style ! and that brings me back to an earlier story from http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html, July 5th with an elegant woman in Paris, on the steps, might be Pantheon or College de France, in overalls and jacket and just looks fantastic ! and on July 9th. there is a story about an elegant Japanese man in overalls ! and that leads to a post last month another elegant woman in overalls http://etiquettewithmissjanice.blogspot.com/2009/06/shopping-lunch-and-moviein-palm-beach.html and she has also a new post yesterday on hand-painted overalls !http://etiquettewithmissjanice.blogspot.com/2009/07/road-trip-yall.html
and then my self from a cocktail party at Semaine du Document Numerique at La Rochelle in June 2004, together with my professor colleagues, Bjørn Sørensen from Norway, Michael Buckland from Berkeley and Maribeth Back from Palo Alto, so it is possible to stick to your overalls when you have to be elegant ! have a nice weekend !
